Optometry Practices
Tonometry
(Eye Pressure Test)
Tonometry is a diagnostic test that measures the pressure inside your eye, which is called intraocular pressure (IOP). This measurement can help your Optometrist determine whether or not you may be at risk of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a serious eye disease in which there’s an increased fluid pressure within your eye. This increased pressure can damage your optic nerve.
Ophthalmoscopy
(Fundus Camera)
Ophthalmoscopy is a test that allows your optometrist to look at the back of your eye. This part of your eye is called the fundus, and consisting the retina, optic disc, blood vessels etc. This test is often included in a routine eye exam to screen for eye diseases. Your optometrist may also order it if you have a condition that affects your blood vessels, such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Ophthalmoscopy may also be called funduscopy or retinal examination.
Subjective Refraction
(Power Test)
Subjective refraction is an attempt to determine, by trial and error using the patient’s cooperation, the combination of lenses that will provide the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).It is a clinical examination used by optometrist to determine a patient's need for refractive correction, in the form of glasses or contact lenses. The aim is to improve current unaided vision or vision with current glasses or contact lenses.
Ishihara Test
(Colour Deficiency Test)
The Ishihara test is a colour perceptoin test for red-green colour deficiencies. The test consists of a number of colored plates, called Ishihara plates, each of which contains a circle of dots appearing randomized in color and size. Within the pattern are dots which form a number or shape clearly visible to those with normal color vision, and invisible, or difficult to see, to those with a red-green color vision defect.
Binocular Test
(Binocular Alignment Test)
The Maddox Rod is to subjectively detect and measure the latent, manifest, horizontal or vertical strabismus for near and distance. The test is based on the principle of diplopic projection.
